Econfina - 10/24

We fished the falling tide...12:30’ish until 5:30pm. The bite was difficult. We started fishing top water lures and gold spoons around Rock Island. After more than an hour of casting practice we decided to try the 4 - 6 ft range. It sucked...one bite after an hour of drifting and trolling. We tried all the usual lures and colors, but no bites. Finally, out of curiosity, we fished near one of the bird racks. We managed to catch one 19” trout and a stud 34” redfish. Both fish hit a ¼ oz white & red Flair-tail Hawk. The depth was about 10’ and we retrieved the Flair-tail slowly just above the grass with intermittent rod tip twitches.

Was the water down toward Rock Isl. clear or brown like dark coffee?

It's been so dark down that way lately that I am wondering if that paper mill in Perry is dumping about twice what they are supposed to. Normally during drought conditions the water clears up, but I didn't see that during this recent dry spell.

Yes...the water around Rock Island is still dark brown. It was hard to see the bottom even in 2’.

Interesting. You might have to try back toward the Aucilla next time.

All this wind has it all stirred up still like coffee out there.

Neither will the strong winds the rest of the week. Hoping our weather stabilizes soon, but the longevity makes this seem like the new "normal."

We could of used some of the rain here in Perry today but not a drop at our house.
