I grew up fishing in the mountains of NY and then moved to Sebastian Inlet where I fell in love with Mr. Snook....hence my name. I found this board and had to jump right in.....

Just got my first boat and have been fishing the Lighthouse for the past 4 weekends......Live shrimp, jigs, spoons, top-waters, crankbaits, etc....

Not having much luck at all -- a couple of small trout, a catfish, a few lady fish -- I go out with the boys on Saturdays and the family on Sundays...trying to keep the kids interested is hard when you're not seeing any action...

Any help is appreciated, as to spots, lures, bait, etc.

Welcome aboard.....I don't fish over that way much..but I will throw a few things around......

Read some of the old posts in the inshore fishing reports, alot of good information can be had.....

Study maps, watch the tides and weather (it's hot, fishing is generally slow inshore this time of year)....

Try some deeper water 8-12 foot.....

Reading the old posts should help you out alot.....

Keep asking questions, that's what the sites for.....

What Chalk said. It can be difficult this time of year. Go for deeper water, grass or structure. Look at the older inshore fishing posts re: St. Marks.

You are throwing everything at them, sometimes that is the trick.

PS - what kind of boat, we will keep an eye out for you!

You'all just come on in OL. We're glad your here!! Most of us will seem normal til ya get to know us Chak pretty much hit it . Your biggest problem right now is the time of the year. Sounds like your get'n on the water and pitch'n stuff at em...that's more than some of us lately

When nothing else works when its hot , drift some small live pinfish on about a 6 foot leader, change them every 15 minutes or so if no bites. If you have some patience this will catch fish, put the top up and enjoy the drift. This also keeps the kids busy catching pinfish and you'll get a shark or two along to really interest them. Can't add much else to what you been told cept ta mark the spot and note the depth if you do catch one, they are hard to locate this time of year and have a tendency to group up

One week ago on tuesday two miles west of the light house.....

1/4 oz red jig with electric chicken bounced off bottom found 6 keeper trout , a spanish , one shark and 6 blue fish

Spanish and shark were tiped wtih small pc of shrimp.

Oh ya.... 3 giant catfish and about 30 trout too small.

I have found those sail cats you'll talk about....those with long whiskers....are about as good eating as anything on the flats. They put up a mighty fight too. I've been keeping them for years.
I agree completely with all the hints suggested. Deeper water.....live pin fish...jigs tipped with something all pay off in this hot weather.

This time of year, an early early start is critical. Get out on the water early, around dark-thirty, (use running lights before dawn) and you'll have a better chance of putting some keepers in the kooler. Live pinfish will produce Spanish and Trout. Get off the water before noon to keep from over-heating and making the trip miserable. Enjoy your time together.

Frank nailed it on the pinfish. Also, quality trips with kids is an investment that done well equals dividends in a lot more fishing. You're clearly aware of that. My oldest is four & and we're just starting to fish. I take her only when the weather is perfect & I'm gone before it's too hot.

Don't know how big your buddies boat is, but chances are, its not big enough to get to C tower tommorrow.
