St. George Island Late December

Post by ugadawg »

I'm taking the family down camping on St. George at the end of December. I plan to take some fishing gear down, but I am not sure where my best luck will be. I won't have my boat, so I'll be fishing from shore, and I've never surf fished in December. Should I stay gulf side and just try for whiting or would it be worth it to go to the bay side in the state park or go out to the old bridge?

I'd try all of the places you mentioned. As warm as it's been the inshore fishing should still be good then. Good luck.

Water temps are cooling down a bit, lower 60’s last week. Yes, try the surf cause there are still reds roaming the surf . Quite a few black drums being caught lately, especially around structures, bridges, pilings. Fisherman’s Choice is the local bait shop in Eastpoint, next to Napa parts store on Hwy 98. They do carry live shrimp!! Hint hint!
Good luck

Lots of big reds still in the cut if you have a boat or are staying in the Plantation. Cut bait seems to be working.
