Top 3 Lures
Had a discussion yesterday with someone who is getting started inshore and I told him my top choices if I could only fish 3 lures for trout, reds, flounder. Curious as to others' preferences. I'll get it started:
1. Rapala Skitter Walk (3.5-inch version in bone or chrome)
2. Aqua Dream 3/8-ounce weedless gold spoon
3. DOA 1/4-ounce shrimp in near clear
So let's hear options, including brand, size and colors.

Re: Top 3 Lures
4" white gulp shrimp/jighead/cajun thunder(i'm lazy)
Gold spoon(searching)
Just about any topwater plug(excitement)
Being that i'm a pretty lazy fisherman I tend to go with number 1.

In no particular order:
- One Knocker
- Spoon (AquaDream)
- weighted/weedless Jerk Shad.
colours pending water clarity and weather

Re: Top 3 Lures
• Jig Head w/Paddle Tail
• Mirrodine
• Zara Spook style Top Water
Colors and weight change from season to season but always have these three tied on.

Re: Top 3 Lures
1.) Johnson Beetle Spin. Redfish love a good beetle imitation, obviously has to be the large size.
2.) Savage Gear 3D Suicide Duck. Tarpon blow up on these things, maybe it looks like a baby gull.
3.) Wish Hard VIB spoon. Hand down the best spoon you can sling. Replaced all those Aquadreams with the special break-away hook design.

Re: Top 3 Lures
#2 is not something I was expecting. You seem serious. I wasn’t aware tarpon would eat a gull. Capt Mike got that hook problem fixed. But I’m not afraid to try something new. I’ll look into both those baits.mastercaster wrote:1.) Johnson Beetle Spin. Redfish love a good beetle imitation, obviously has to be the large size.

My 3 are skitterwalk, adl spoon and paddle tail soft plastic( currently z man), but I’ve been using a buck tail a lot more. lately. I could go either that or a soft plastic
Edit.. I googled suicide duck, that is a crazy lure. Assuming it is a bass lure?

Not following.. a beetle spin? Is that list stocked with sarcasm?mastercaster wrote:1.) Johnson Beetle Spin. Redfish love a good beetle imitation, obviously has to be the large size
.
Large size, wouldn’t that just be a Colorado Blade spinner bait

Not bass, looks like it’s mainly a Pike bait, saw some cool videos on YouTube.Salty Gator wrote:mastercaster wrote:

Re: Top 3 Lures
I don't target flounder much, but I get lucky every now and then.
1. Rapala Skitter V/Skitterwalk (Pink - but I'm not picky)
2. Mirrodine 17MR
3. Super fluke Jr(white) on a 1/8 weedless worm hook
I could probably sub in a few different soft plastics for the same result - always light colors for me.

Re: Top 3 Lures
1. Gill net
2. TNT
3. C4 or hand grenade
If those don't work:
1. Matrix shad (Green hornet) 1/16 or 1/8 oz jig head
2. D.O.A. shrimp (Natural Gold glitter)
3. Bass Assassin Saltwater Glow and natural 1/8 oz jig
btw: caught 2 limits and 141 trout today on the above.

Re: Top 3 Lures
Skitterwalk 3.5" Bone
Johnson Sprite Gold
Jig with 5" shad - colors vary. I prefer the style with the eye on top of the jig - makes for a more dramatic fall and the tail points up as it does.
