West Flats we’re good today!

We fished the west flats for the first time this year. It was too windy to drift, so we anchored on an old gps mark. The first cast with a live shrimp resulted in a 17” seatrout. Nice start! The action was steady for the next two hours…ladyfish, sand trout, jack, sharks, and a 2’ wide stingray. One of the sharks was a 4’ blacktip that gave the kids one heck of a fight on my 4000 Penn with medium action rod! We also landed a 4lb gafftop catfish which slammed a live pinfish.
The depth was 4’, the temperature 78, and the water clarity was murky.
We also had a alligator gar hit a live pinfish. It was only about 20” long. I have heard reports that gar prowl the flats, but today I witnessed one myself.
