The trout seem to have worms right now

Just an FYI, all the trout we caught Sunday had worms. We didn’t bother to keep a single fish today. Have others noticed the same thing?

I had no idea. We usually do catch and release. Maybe once or twice a year we actually keep the fish. This was the first time they seemed to be full of them.geofish wrote: May 30th, 2022, 9:06 pm Pretty common. Extra protein, not harmful except the ick factor.

Usually worse in spring and summer. It’s a shark tapeworm that uses the shrimp then the trout that eats the shrimp as intermediate hosts. Harmless to humans and already stayed. Easily removed if you don’t like the idea of eating them.Just a Guest wrote: May 31st, 2022, 10:52 amI had no idea. We usually do catch and release. How can you tell if they have worms without cleaning them?Just a Guest wrote: May 30th, 2022, 8:38 pm Just an FYI, all the trout we caught Sunday had worms. We didn’t bother to keep a single fish today. Have others noticed the same thing?
We kept the ones on Sunday and cut into them. That’s why we didn’t bother to keep them on Monday.ropeman wrote: May 31st, 2022, 3:55 pmHow can you tell if they have worms without cleaning them?Just a Guest wrote: May 30th, 2022, 8:38 pm Just an FYI, all the trout we caught Sunday had worms. They scoot their butt on the bottom of the boat when you land them.ropeman wrote: May 31st, 2022, 3:55 pmHow can you tell if they have worms without cleaning them?Just a Guest wrote: May 30th, 2022, 8:38 pm Just an FYI, all the trout we caught Sunday had worms. I read that shrimp were the intermediate hosts between tapeworm egg and trout( shrimp eats egg, trout eats shrimp) then trout between shrimp and shark ( final host). I don’t remember the source, but it seemed reputable when I read it. I don’t know for sure obviously, but that’s what I read. Do you have a source?btsnipe wrote: June 3rd, 2022, 2:33 pm The trout get worms if feeding on pinfish, not from feeding on shrimp they won't hurt you, just looks nasty
