Indian Pass FYI

I'd been wanting to put in here to more easily reach our trolling spots near the Swanson. I'd been fishing here once before about 8 years ago in my bass boat, it's not a good place for bass boats. Decided to try it again yesterday in the bay boat. The current still rips on the falling tide, visibility about 6 inches. I'd been told in the past to run down the beach until you reach the old pilings and then turn south. Perhaps Bonnie remodled the area to her liking because there is now a large exposed sand bar that extends out from the beach south before you ever reach the pilings. Opposite this sand bar is the very shallow reef that extends SW from St Vincent island. The current preferentially pushes you across this reef rather than out into the deeper water. Between the two is a gap, maybe 75 yards wide. Maximum depth was 4.5 feet at high tide (avg tide swing about 1.5 ft). So I guess it's doable if you stay on plane and know exactly where you're going, but don't count on being able to see any under water obstructions. There were some pretty big boats kept on trailers at the camp ground there, I assume they must launch there without any trouble. However, they looked like they had minimal deadrise, so maybe they don't draft much. Getting the boat back on the trailer was interesting. When I held position in the current in front of the ramp I was almost on plane. Don't think I'm going to try bringing "Sawbones" down here until I get a few more scratches on her. Just wanted to share a little reconnaisance data with the group.
