Tribute to OG Forum Member, RHTFISH

Post by big bend gyrene »

Met Ross "Poppy" Thomas almost 20 years ago at a Bigbendfishing forum cookout and instantly bonded with him over our shared love of the Econfina area. Honestly don't believe we ever met again in person, but with the advent of Facebook we communicated regularly through comments on each other's posts.

Just this week I thought it odd that I hadn't noticed any comments from him for some time, visited his FB profile page, and saw tributes to his passing.

Feel it fitting to share a video I put together over a decade ago largely comprised of photos Ross had taken while fishing in the Apalachee Bay.

Fair winds and following seas, Ross! You surely will be sorely missed by those of us who had the chance to meet you!

That's a great tribute, sir. It reminds me how fortunate I/we are to be able to experience this wonderful and awesome patch of God's creation. He/I/we, are and were truly blessed.

Thank you BBG. Ross was a neighbor and friend at Econfina for 20+ years. He sold his boats and camper several years ago to pursue other interests, mainly photography. He was good at it. That's a great tribute to him and his passions.

I didn't know he died either, sorry to hear about him. I'm pretty sure he's the guy that helped me at the landing after my partner swiped a pole with my trailer and pinned the fender on my tire. he was a real nice fella. :(
