FCA Ernie Stevenson Memorial Inshore Fishing Tournament--Nov. 16, 2024

This past weekend I saw a flyer at Kevin's Guns and Sporting Goods announcing the Fellowship of Christian Athletes' First Annual Ernie Stevenson Memorial Inshore Fishing Tournament. I am not affiliated with the tournament or FCA, but I had the privilege of knowing Ernie and fishing with him. Fishing with Ernie seemed to mean that God's blessing was on your boat and you were going to catch a lot of fish. But, God's blessing was especially on Ernie and he was going to catch more fish than you.
Ernie was also full of Biblical knowledge. During a Bible study, for example, he would be the one who could explain the nuances of ancient Greek words that had been translated into modern English in our Bibles. Ernie also had a great sense of humor. One day he asked me, "Do you want to know how you can get a really nice 7' fishing rod?" "Of course," I said. Then he explained, "Take a 7'6" fishing rod and close it in a car door."

One of my best days fishing was fishing for flounder with Ernie. Here’s how we did that day, back in 2018 when you could keep 10 flounder a day.
