Went on a two day fishing trip on May 31 and Jun 1 with Reel Tite Charters. Very nice accomadations and food. Guide was a fun guy to fish with as well. Had to work hard the first day, pretty windy and rough water in a lot of places. Was only a little better than an average trip at home. Was cool to actually be in a boat where the Miss River meets the Gulf of America. We caught a few keepers, mostly shorts and a couple of bulls. Lots of other fish too. A doormat of a flounder.
Sunday the 1st was awesome. Fished the east side and had a 45 minute ride to the fish and after the second spot shut down without much at the first two, we hit paydirt at the third. I had 5 slot reds in the boat before the others fishing with us had really had a chance to start fishing. We were all casting with the same rigs to the same spots and I did not catch any upper slots or overs, but they were caught right next to me! Had a young man with us and he caught a pig of a legal red 8.5lbs and 26.5". We caught a mess of little drum and a bunch of good size sheephead in the cane. After tossing legal after legal back (we had our limits early) it was time to head home.
I learned a few things. Based on the number of spots we motored right past that looked identical to other spots, a guide was a wise decision on a short trip. I also learned that 12.5 foot (or so) alligators do in fact eat 6 foot (or so alligators). We came up on the monster munching a 6 footer!
I may try the Delacroix or Hopedale area on our own in a year but need to make it were we have a few more days to fish.

Sounds like a great trip, I too want to try hopedale myself on my own and stay at dudehofers.

Great report. I would love to see pictures from the trip, especially pictures of the big alligator munching on the smaller one.

I'm looking at Hopedale or Delacroix to do a non-guided trip. A lot to learn there, but that is the fun of it. Just don't want to lose a lower unit.
