I fished out of Keaton with Pat McGriff Saturday. My first time ever in that area.
We fished hard and covered a lot of water over a 7 hour period. We ended up with two, barely 15", trout, and a small Spanish. I think we released 4-5 short trout. We fished live Pinfish and every color grub in the boat and the bite was equally slow no matter what.
The high point of the day was finding a school of Jacks hitting bait on top. Caught five or six of them.
I've seen redfish tailing once in my life, close to Aucilla.. Got close enough to them to drop the jig right into them. Partner was with me. He did the same thing. We were immediately onto two fighting qritters. He finally landed a 3-4 lb redfish. I finally landed a jack cravel that would go 5-6 lbs. Man what a fight. What a disappointment to me....but that jack could fight.
Ken, the fishing has been tough around here. If you didn't catch fish with Pat, it was real tough.
My brother-in-law and his wife went out from Hickory Mound Tuesday. Didn't catch the first trout, but caught Jacks till they ran out of plugs. They had a ball.
Give me a call in the fall. I don't charge near what Pat does.
Way to hang in there with the slow bite. I know you felt the heat of the day through it all. Sure beats sitting in an office 8 hours and attending meaningless meetings.....
Well....ya'll done talked me into going to the Gulf this weekend! Jacks are my all time favorite fish to catch. I know ya'll will scrunch up your faces in disgust.. But I love to eat smoked Jack as well.
