One 18" trout, and I was real happy about that. The wind was supposed to be 10 knots out of the east. Well the east part was right. I was kayaking & determined to fish the outer bars west & the falts across to Patty's Island. A voice said it was too windy, go to the lee shore & the East Goose Creek oyster bars...but no, not me, I know where the fish are. I fought 15-20 knots the whole time. The yak handles it well but it's not a real pleasant trip. I used a Ct with various grubs, topwaters, and a gold spoon and did nothing. I did eventually go back to the east and worked the bars hard. I couldn't get a hit. I didn't fish the grass flats because the waves were too big to do anything but surf. Heading back (fast) I did try the CT over grass and caught the trout on my first cast. I couldn't stick with it though but at least I found out where I might have caught more fish.
Thanks for the other reports about not catching anything. They're as useful, or more so, as the reports about a lot of fish caught.

It reminds me of my days when the only boat I owned was a canoe. I wasted/fought many windy days. My canoe could double as a sailboat. 15-20 knots would be enough to drive me off the water and back to the house. I caught my share of fish, and a few of the fish took me for a ride before they would give up. It was exciting. Now that I have a boat with a good motor, I can go farther and faster. Now I have more time to catch fish. There are no more boundaries....

Did ya see them fools pushing that 22 foot custom flats boat out of the rocks around 3 or 4? that was me and my crazy a$$ brother "his boat" he was bound and determined ta catch a fish, even if it killed us He did manage a 10" Trout, I got skunked

What would say your range is for a normal day fishing?

I went and looked at a Pungo last night, thinking about putting some money down.

Mj... I wouldn't exactly agree about a boat not having boundaries. The kayak can do some unique things -pretty damn cheap too!

Chalk, what's my range? I'd say 5 miles in a Pungo. It's a pretty fast boat. I do know a damn fool that paddled all the way to Dog Island Shoal one day (and part of the night).
If you know Wakulla Beach the entire bay (Oyster) is a circuit that's reasonable. I've gone west and fished the shoreline south to Live Oak, back across to, and around, Patty's Island, then to the eastern shoreline & the oyster bars at east Goose Creek, then back to the put in. That's a lot of territory. I never seem to cover that much because if you're on fish you don't really go any farther.
My fishing haunts to the west lend themselves to a kayak because there are so many places you can put in and cover a lot of different habitat within easy range. That's not really the same east of St Marks, at least in my opinion. Hickory Mounds is accessible and seems like it would be a prime area though.
