I’m going to be at St Teresa this weekend for 3 days of fishing and beer drinking. I went down weekend before last to see how bad my boat leaked and my motor wouldn’t work. The motor is in the shop and hopefully will be ready, but if it isn’t I need a fall back position. I’ve got equipment for most anything. I wouldn’t mind doing a little shark, or trout, or redfish, or any other kind of fishing if there was a good spot and I don’t mind driving a little to get there. Any suggestions?

If you have a cast net, bring it with ya. I understand the mullet are pretty thick at the coast right now.

St Teresa is my prime territory. My first thought would be to check with Dark Waters in Sopchoppy or the Canoe Shop to see if they can give you a deal on a kayak to rent for your vacation. Don't make it a canoe, unless you have one anyway. If you get a yak post & I'll detail sites. From shore Bald Point is prime in the fall. The spoil bank on the west side channel of the FSU Marine Lab channel is often good, sometimes great. If you're up for the trip the Oil Docks in St Joe is an adventure. I posted on my trip last week .Over there the stump whole is also good and I hear the flounder have started showing up in the intercoastal. Your timing is right for the fall pompano which would be an option on the beach out at the parks (St Joe or St George). I'll help if you want more details.

The reason for all the Mullet is that my dad passed away last October and he is no longer depleting the population. The problem is I’m just not any good with a cast net and I don’t get down often enough too practice. Dad had several nets but we gave a couple of them away to needy cast netters in Apalachicola. I do have an old gill net but I’ve never used a gill net. Apparently we also have a seine net so bait will be easy to catch. I also have lots of crab traps. Even if the motor gets fixed we may spend some time at Bald Point, a good beach chair beats an aluminum boat for comfort. What might we catch there? I know from experience that Mud Cove usually has good shark fishing, is that true at Bald Point also? Should we fish on the Gulf side or over near the mouth of the creek? I’ve got tackle for almost any occasion.

don't want no kayak ideas, huh. Fine. You and just about everybody else around here (don't know what their missing). Make your dad proud and buy a new net. It's a whole lot of fun and you don't need to practice on the water, you can practice at home in the yard. It's shrimp season and you could add them to your vacation plan at Bald Point.

Guess I'm looking for similar information. Need some spots from St.Marks to Carrabelle or so to fish from shore. Haven't brought my kayak over to Tallahassee yet or I'd just head to Carrabelle or Apalachicola. Getting tired of studying and think some fishing is in order for this weekend. Haven't been fishing since the end of July. I may have forgotten how.

Be careful, I "think" even recreational gill nets are illegal now. I would hate to see you just tinkering around with this net and the local FWC guys bust you on gill netting. Not sure but thats what I heard. I believe it even made it illegal to use though alewive (LYs) catching rig with the red ribbon down the middle and the mono gill netting around it that you could use on a fishing rod illegal.
