Apalachacola Bay

First time on a chat room. Us old fishermen are not always computer
savvy. Will be fishing the Bay this weekend. Have been fishing this area for the last 25 years, but not lately. Has all the fresh water screwed things up? Any suggestions where two fishermen could spend the night near downtown. Not picky at all! I'll post results of trip when I return.
Thanks,

Welcome aboard.
I have stayed at the Rancho Inn before. It suited me OK, its right on hwy. 98 the number is 850-653-9435. There is also a Best Western close by.
I think one of the fishcamps closed but I disremember which one it was.

It was Breakaway Lodge that closed. Bay City Lodge (on the river above the town of Apalachicola) is still open. BCL is on a canal leading to the river, and they have a launch and boat slips. BCL also has a passable (I rarely ever pass it up when in the area) restaurant.

Our club usually stays at the Rancho. But, they've gotten a little pricey. Last time we stayed it was $85 a night. But, they have a few rooms with boats in mind.
BYW, welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard weedwhacker!
The St George Island state park has some decent camping accommodations with electricity & water, showers/bathrooms with hot water and two ramps
that are best used on a rising tide. Last time I checked, they were running at $18 a night. Camped there before with the family in the fall and it was really nice.

Apalachacola Report 10-8 10-9

Wind was horrible on 10-8. Fished the Hwy. 98 Bridge no luck. Ran out to Bob Sikes Cut no luck. Fished near docks on bayside of SGI caught one trout. 10-9 Stayed at Riverside Inn. Saw guide boats working creek mouths right downtown. Immediately headed to area after they left. They only stayed 1/2 hour. Immediately started catching reds of all sizes. Mostly "pups" of 14" to 16", but also got into large school of hybrid bass hitting live shrimp on bottom. That was serious fun and an unexpected suprise. Never caught them right by the entrance to the bay!!. Also a couple of doormat size flounder and nice mess of very large sheepshead. A couple of reds were 27" to 28" and were right up in the reeds along the river. Not bad for 4 hours of pleasant fishing and having to run less than 5 minutes to drop anchor. Riverside was ok, view was great, but you pay for it at $106 per night for 2 queen size beds. Thanks for all the suggestions as to where to stay.
