My “one that got awayâ€

It was Monday, the wind was from the east and not much was biting. Mostly I was fishing with my spinning reel with 6lb test but I also had a reel with 30lb test on it. I was fishing out the back of my little boat and I put a large pinfish on my heavy rig, cast it out, and wedged it up under the seat. With two people in a 14 ft. boat you are bound to run into some problems and when I went back cast my light rig I got hung on my partner’s line just as he got a bite. When the confusion was over and he had landed a small catfish I noticed that my rod wasn’t in the back of the boat anymore. It was an old rod and reel but still worked well so I wasn’t happy. After about 10 minuets I saw my cork pop up about 25 yards south of the boat. We pulled up the anchor and started toward the cork but as soon as we drew near it disappeared. We stopped and fished the spot where the cork had been for about 30 minuets then gave up and moved out a little into deeper water. A while later I noticed a white dot on the water back in the direction we came from; we went to check it out and sure enough it was my cork! We pulled up to it and John grabbed it. My rod was still on one end, the fish was still on the other and there was a tangle in the middle. John carefully untangled the line then pulled my rod out of the water and handed it to me so that I could retrieve my prize. As I started reeling in the fish I felt it but it seemed mostly lifeless. Then with a sudden burst of energy the danged thing jumped out of the water and threw my hook! It all happened so fast I’m not even sure what it was. John just look at me and said, “I should have just pulled it in by handâ€

Great Story!

While fishing in my canoe, I've had my rig run the other way and had the pole whack me in the back of the head. Came close to loosing my rig also, but luckily landed a giant trout.

Good storytelling. A lot of us have "been there, done that" but it's how you pass on your tale. You did a great job.
