Panacea 10/16

Post by Eerman »

Headed out about 8:00 this morning solo. Didn't have a lot of time to fish b/c we're having company over this evening. Managed to catch six trout. The first and best one of the day come in at 20 inches. One other keeper. The rest were right in the 14-15 inch range. Overall, a really good day. Didn't start catching anything until the tide turned and started to rise. Everything got real hot about the time I had to leave...figures. The boat that was drifting near me also seemed to be landing a few. Caught everything on a CT with a trout colored grub. Water was stained and about 70 degrees. I was somewhere b/w channel marker 2 out of Panacea Harbor Marina and the lighthouse. I would be more exact; but still don't know my way around enough to give specific names of the area. I guess it would be just out from the Spring Creek area. I also had what I think were a couple of reds boil on a She Dog; but couldn't get anything hooked up.

Much the same report, slow after the cold front but got our trout around tide change out of SM lighthouse, most around tide change in 4-5' of water, lots of shorts in boat jam around rock garden in 3'. Stoped by Jerry's on a whim and picked up two dozen nice shrimp which was a good move as they productd the majority of trout. Lighthouse channel was interesting at neg. low, lots of folks making mud soup, we came in on trolling motor in about 8". Just can't see making mud soup with the new Johnson but some folks didn't think twice.. All in all a great day, fall is in the air. Temp at 7am - 47, water temp - 69

Same report here.

Drifted several miles east of the lighthouse and picked up several trout shortly after tide change. Most were shorts, wound up keeping one 22" and one 15-1/2".

Started to head back east and turned on the GPS to set a course for the birdrack. It would not acquire satellites. I started tracing wires and discovered that squirrels have chewed through my antenna wire. They don't know it yet, but they just started a war.
I must fish.
