Had planned on going to Econfina but with the low tide of -.5 ft were not concerned about trying to come back in on such a low tide if we had to (low tide was at 10:30am) So we ended up heading to Keaton Beach to be safe. Left marina about 7:30 and fished a little south of channel for most of the morning. Did not catch much until after tide changed and started rising after lunch. After tide started coming in we started catching some trout a little more consistently. Also the fish moved shallower as the tide continued to rise. Most fish caught between 3-4 feet. Could not get a consistent bite on artificials, tried grubs, topwater, and tubes. Not much luck. Started fishing with live and cut pinfish under cajun thunder and action heated up. Ended up with 5 keeper trout, 1 keeper spanish mackerel, about 12 keeper black sea bass (they were released though), and a keeper bluefish (also released). Also caught over 30 more trout that were to short (90% between 14-15 inches) and one ugly lizard fish. Left water at about 5:00. Had great time, great weather and as always can't wait to go back.

Good to hear the catch & release method in practice. For some reason, a good day fishing always includes at least one ugly lizzard fish.

Those Lizard fish are something else. Man talk about mean looking. Funny thing is I had never seen one until last year fishing Keaton Beach when my Father-In-Law caught one and we didn't know what it was. So when we got back to the marina I looked it up in a book they had and found it. What was crazy was the one we caught was pretty big and I would almost swear it would have easily have beat the world record the book had listed! But then again I wouldn't want to keep that fish any longer than I had to. Oh, anyone ever been brave enough to eat a lizard fish? Probably taste like chicken or will make you puke
