Left out of Spring Creek about 8:30 am heading out to rotory 1 in my Carolina Skiff. Bottom fished for about an hour catching nothing worth keeping.
Decided to try around Rotory 4 and still no luck on the bottom. Put a stretch 25 out behind the boat and trolled. FISH ON!

Caught 8 keeper Grouper in about 2 hours on one stretch 25. Good thing because it was the only stretch we had.
Headed in just in time for motor to drop a cylinder on the ride back in.
Made it in safely with a cooler full of grouper.

Sounds like a pretty good trip - except for the outboard. At least you made it in.

I need some more infor about this reef. I usually fish out of Ecofina but will have to leave out of St Marks Sat. s this close to the posted rotary reef? or is it your " private reef"?
What color stretch did you use and were you in 25 feet of water.
Sounds like a great trip to me! Sorry about the motor. We just put a new one ( low miles ) 150 on our boat. It will run like the wind and is great. You cant believe the difference between the '89/225 and the 2000 evinrude fuel efficient motor. We get twice the gas milage! this is a 2 cylinder too. Got it from Chuck Shields.

It was his motor on his boat and he upgraded to larger size motors.

HOpe you have better luck and can fix your motor

Yes, we were trolling around the posted rotary reef. The stretch we were using was green and white. Don't think the color mattered. Another boat or two were also catching them just as fast. Don't think they were using the same colors. Trolling between 19ft and 25 ft depth.
Boat's been in the shop sine Monday eve. Hoping to get it back by the weekend so I can go try again

Nice trip, commiserations on the motor. You were lucky to be able to limp in, broken motors are no fun.
