We arrived at Mike's promptly at 6:00 for what the forecast predicted to be a nice day on the water. WRONG! We stayed at the dock till 7:20 and then decided to try to make a go of it.
We ran out to the west end of Dog Island to survey the seas. We were met with 3-5's and 15+ kts....just wasn't up to fight them (mind you, the forcast called for 1-2's, 5-10 kts. with a light to moderate chop
). We decided to go anchor over near the sunken shrimp boat and try our luck with some cut bait while we waited for the weather that was predicted
. Not 5 minutes had gone by when my rod was nearly pulled overboard! A few minutes later a 38" red appeared and it was not happy to be hooked. I finally got it in the boat for a quick pic and back it went
. For the next hour, not a bite.
Decided to drift and for the next 2 hours.....no fish but alot of laughs....sometimes that's all you can do.
We piddled around till 12:30 or so and decided to go take one last look at the seas. We went out about 1.5 miles and decided that the day was just gonna have to be chalked up as a bust. Oh well, as least we'll live again to fish another day.
TOTAL FOR THE DAY: ONE 38" RED (I'LL POST A PIC LATER)
A COUPLE OF SMALL SHARKS
LOTS OF LAUGHS ABOUT OLD TIMES
