Mexico Beach - 10/24/04

I watched the radar until 1130, rain was gone so myself, Lyn and Joseph loaded up and headed to Port St. Joe.

Got to the sea wall and the waves were coming over the wall and not many places for the wife and kid to play safely so I decided to head back towards Mexico Beach....

Found an uninhabited place and parked...Headed to the beach to set up.... Got the out to the inside bar and threw the Carolina rigged shrimp out.... Two minutes later the familiar bump, bump came...After several drag peeling runs I landed a 21" red...Carried him up to Joseph so he could admire daddy’s handy work.....

Released the red to fight again another day....

Baited up and headed out again...took a little longer this time, but the familiar bump, bump came again...I set the hook and proceeded to head to the shore.... I’m worried the bar might be too shallow, but the fish made it across...I get Joseph to reel the fish in and he does a fine job for a four year old.... The fish comes in and it's a 23" red.... I was a proud daddy.... Joseph gave it a pet and another keeper sent off to fight again another day.... 8)

Only thing that sucked was the camera was at home and no pics could be taken.... I guess Joseph and me will have to keep the pics in our memory.... :-D

Fished a little longer and caught a lady fish...

Great day at the beach with my wife and son....

Way to go  . As a young Fish Masterson I used to fish at the pier quite a bit. Usually the fare was sharks, with the occasional something else. I have never caught a Red there. How close to the pier did you fish?

Reminds me of some of the trips I have had with my nephew at Mexico Beach. I hope to make some memories like that with my little girl when she gets a little older. Good job!

Me too! The Mexico Beach trip sounds like a great way to negotiate a day of fishing with the kids. My trips as a kid were to the Outer Banks in Carolina and the giant Redfish my dad let me catch evidently made an impression on me.
Great trip Chalk. My in-laws are in St Joe so I'm sure I'll do the the Mexico Beach trip too.

You are both blessed, lucky, whatever you want to call it. He and thee will have it for a lifetime, and his children too probably. Good job Dad!

Chalk,
The canal will also hold reds during the winter months. We caught them when I was younger off of the bow of dad's boat when it was in the slip.
