Spring Creek 10/24

Post by eat_mo_crawfish »

Four of us (including Tailspotspotter) headed out of Spring Creek early Sunday mornng to find some grouper. On the way out, we stopped in about 25 feet to get some live bait.

We never left the "bait" spot.

Sabiki goes down, triggerfish. And another. And another. What the heck, let's drop the grouper lines. Bam. Bam. TSSpotter has two keepers in the box. The action was hit and miss, but never off long enough for us to leave. We ended up with 8 grouper, three of 'em going over 15 lbs, a mess of triggers, two doormat flouders, and a big 'ol spannie just for good measure. We got cut off a couple of times on what we guess were kings. I hooked a cobe that I couldn't even turn, and my buddy hooked one on the sabiki (you know how that very short story ends). Great day on the water.

How far out did you have to go to get to 25' depths?

I wasn't paying close attention to distances or the GPS (I was guarding the beer from TSS), but I believe we were about 9 miles out. We could still see shore on the horizon.

Thats what you call a nice suprise.

Is it the recent storms that have blown the fish inshore, or is it a seasonal thing ?

Thanks for the report eat_mo! Did you notice if the trolling was a possibility or the grass was too bad?

The grass looked fairly thick. We trolled a little on the way in and had moderate problems with it.
