solar battery rechargers

It has been a long time since my last post. I've been taking the family out more than I have been fishing. But here is my question- what is anyone's experience with the solar battery rechargers? I was thinking of getting one of the panels and keeping it hooked up during the colder months. I thought it might be better than going out with the "high power" plug-in charger once a month. I would appreciate any comments pro-con from those that have used them. Thanks.

Charge your battery all the way with a conventional charger. Then hook the solar panel up. The solar panel won't charge it if it's low. But it will maintain it if you start out with it charged. Make sure whatever panel you buy has a directional diode. A solar panel without the diode will actually discharge the battery at night.

It helps to maintain batteries by using that boat at least every other week during the cold season

Fish, you're right. The boat needs to be used.
