Mashes Sands 10/30

My son, (Austin 8 yrs old) and I bought 4 dozen shrimp and headed for the oyster bars to catch some red fish. Lauched about 0830 and started fishing the shrimp on bottom. It didn't take long for me to realize I would have a long day of trying to keep the boat off the bars and keep my sons rod baited.
Decided to try the flats but when we reached the gulf and saw how flat it was we checked to see if we had some trolling lures. Bingo, we had them and the big rods on the boat. Dialed in a number and headed SE.
Dropped a pink stretch 18 and before we could get a 25 in the water we had our first short grouper on. Picked up eight total in about 1.5 hrs with two keepers. All were caught in 25-28' and most on the pink 18. Picked up a spanish but it was only about 18" so he will fight another day.
We stopped on some fish chasing bait on top and I threw a chug bug in amongst them and on the second cast a cobia nailed it! He stripped line, I gained it back, we did that about three times before he decided to spit the lure out. (gotta sharpen my hooks)
A beautiful day and my son is becoming a pretty good mate.
Back home in time to clean the boat and fish and watch a bad football team out-coach a good one. Fresh grouper for supper then about 2200 I remembered the 4 dz shrimp in a bucket on the driveway
. I hope they will be OK frozen, I hate to throw away that many. I tried to give them away at the landing but the only people around were going after mullet.
