mjsigns - this post is for you.

Was invited out on Scott's catamaran to go off shore Saturday. It was my first trip off shore out of St Marks. Got to see Bouy 24 and Scott showed me the Wakulla Reef on the bottom reader!

Stopped and caught pin fish without too much trouble although they preferred being hooked to going into the fish trap.

Went out yonder - stopped - nothing. Went further out yonder - nothing. then Scott says "Let's go to a place where I've caught fish before". This sounded like a good idea to me! So we go way out yonder and as soon as we stop we started catching fish. My first fish was a red grouper that was the size of three trout and I was told it had to go back :( My next red was even bigger and it had to go back too :smt022 I was starting to wonder if I liked this type of fishing. Finally I got one that won the cooler nod of approval  While I'm oohing and aahing over the little guys - John catches a big black grouper that even I knew was a keeper.
After quite a few shorts we had 5 grouper in the cooler and they stopped so we moved on for awhile.

Tried a few other places - nothing. Scott caught an octopus that was latched on to a black bass that was latched on to a pin fish! Shortly after John and I both caught octopi so we left that spot.

Went back to the place where we had caught fish and immediately started catching them again. John caught another big black, Scott caught a large red and Zeke caught the anchor line!

I took the camera and got some shots but was told I was just like mjsigns with the camera and to put it down and fish - pictures could be taken afterwards. I put it down and fished!

We tried trolling a bit on the way in - one hit - no fish.

Finally keeper tally (not including grunts)

Scott - one large red
Zeke - one red and one progie
John- two large black grouper and two red
Sea Gurl - one nice black and three reds

and a whole lot of fun and memories. My sincere thanks to the guys for inviting me to share such a great day with them. I couldn't of enjoyed it more.

I am just plumb proud of U Gurl

Ain't it FUN  Sure wish I could have come, but I had already made a commitment to my daughter. Did you get a chance to use one of Scott's BillyStix rods? Your trip sounded just like the one he took us on back in April or May (just cant remember). Glad you scored big on the Reds and just plain showed them boys how to get some fishes  Can't wait to see the pics.

For me the picture taking just aint the same to wait till the fishing is over. I like to capture the rush of a fighting fish flopping all over the deck, and running into each other trying to get to the live well because the action is so fast & furrious.

I tried to hail ya'll on 16, but I think you all had already come back in by the time I was putting in at the ramp. (3:30pm) Scott is a great guy to fish with, and I hope to make another run out with him soon.

Way 2 GO Sea Gurl

Rodbow - The catamaran was surely different. I've never been in a boat that sat on top of the water instead of "in" the water. Sure rode good - I never felt ill once! Sorry you couldn't make it.

MJ - I meant to mention that I was entrusted with PATTY'S Custom Made Billy Stix (had her name right of the rod) to fish with - Scott said she insisted I use it. Can you imagine the responsibility I felt - I would of had to go over with the rod before I could of let go of it :) Scott tried to radio you too around 4:00, I think, we were at the Wakulla reef about then trolling. I agree with you about the pictures - I took a few before I stopped but at the dock the fish had lost their color and it just wasn't quiet the same effect. Scott took a couple of digitals he was going to e-mail me.

TC - I'm definitely sticking with flats fishing - I can't afford off shore! It's out of my league - I'll just be grateful to tag along sometimes. Maybe I won't have to wait another ten years to go again

Ya'll have a good one :smt006
