I am confused. Stretch 25+ and stretch 12+ say 17lb test MONO at 150' of line will give you the stated depth. Heavier test will give you shallower depth. States they will track true up to 10 kts.

Is is line diameter or lb test that effect depth?

If I am using braid instead of mono, how does that effect line length and depth?

Should I even use braid?

If I use braid, should I use a mono leader? If yes, with a barrell swivel or tie line to line?

What is a good line to line knot?

Thanks. Still learning.

Heavier line, more resistance, less depth....No need to try 10 kts either
Diameter
Less resistance, increased depth, less line out if your using a 30 in 30 foot of water....
Yes
You can, Use wire in the summer (Kings)..I tie a snap swivels on (braid/snap swivel/stretch)

Stren Knot / Jknot....variation of a uni/uni knot....I tie a j knot when I tie a leader to 30 lb Power Pro....I have never broken the J knot....The lure knot will break first, I run a lighter leader than line though, for that purpose....If you use a 50# leader and 30# braid...The line to line will break first...If you don't cut your hand off first :o

I prefer mono for trolling. I like the stretch in mono for trolling. I troll with a 25 Lb. or 30 Lb. test main line. I use a 7 strand wire leader in the summer (as Chalk said, kings), and a 50 Lb. test mono leader in the colder months. I use a barrel swivel between the main line and the leader.

Consider that I don't go much past 40 feet of water, and all this works well for me.

# for #, braid will get you down deeper because of it's smaller diameter. I usually use 30-40 # mono with a 3' fluoro or wire leader connected with a barrel swivel. I'll move up to braid when fishing in > 50 foot depths. In shallower water, the no stretch braid will pull their lips off. Usually troll at 4.5 kts.
