My son and I launched a t the fort at 0700, with the intent of catching a grouper. Low tide was at 0748. It was low! Ran out toward my close in numbers to discover the northeast wind had things chopped up pretty good. Went on out anyway. The first pass trolling was with the wind to our back. Not too bad. Turned the boat around to troll back through, and the story changed. The wind and seas were bad enough I couldn't keep the boat straight, and we took 3 waves over the bow! I suggested we head to the flats. Ran to one of my spots just west of the rock garden where it's usually 2.5 to 3 feet deep on a low tide. It was 1.7 feet deep. Moved out a little further to 3 feet of water and started drifting. The water temp was 58 degrees. The wind was out of the ENE, and howling. It was cold, and whitecapping. But, we fished. Stayed until 1230 (had other obligations Friday afternoon). Final tally was 5 short trout, and 1 lizard fish, all on a 1/4 oz. jig with Electric Chicken grubs, fished on the bottom.

Chalk, not enough water. The bars were still well exposed in the river when we ran in.

We didn't take on any water when running. Just while we were trolling. The boat ran well at 25 to 30 mph in the rough water. But, when you're idleing into 2 to 3's, occasionally the bow drops enough to pick up the next wave. :-? It weren't no fun trolling in that mess anyway.
