1/19 Spring Creek

"Chalk" it up to a learning experience.
I couldn't go for long but the cold front lit a fire I just had to put out.

I think about fishing a lot.
It’s the place I go when what I’m really doing isn’t much fun. It does help to consider the possibilities even when you can’t go. I imagine where I’d go & what might work.
That usually translates to wondering where the Trout are.
Given the recent cold front I thought the puzzle looked pretty easy to piece together. I didn’t have much time but with the time I had I was gonna hunt trout.
I put in at 7:30 (cold!) and started on some favorite spots.
Nothing Nothing Nothing
The tide was slack but I wasn’t allowing much for it given the quarter moon & my belief that the temps should be the biggest influence on where the fish were. I tried a lot of stuff a lot of ways and nada.
Before I finally bowed to the fish gods I decided to stop at a bar and stretch my legs (I’m in the kayak). With the tide now moving a little and I figured I at least had to try what the spot had to offer. Looking down at the jig-grub I’d tossed 100 times I submitted to trying it first.
Nada.
Try something else. Might be some Redfish around. Yeah, but they should have hit the jig. Fine, I’ll put on a gold spoon.
Nada.
Ok, I'll give up, but they're lucky I don’t have any cut bait to sweeten my offer.
Sounds like "wishful - I woulda blah blah".
But wait, I do keep a slab of Fishbites around. It’s usually for small hooking Pinfish for bait but it might be the trick. Doubtful but determined I added a strip to the spoon and let it fly. Second cast it gets a bump and then my drag is singing (me too). It stays down and runs so I’m sure it’s a Redfish. Just as it’s getting within sight I feel that sudden, awful, thing.
Gone. Damn. Hook broke. With my teeth grinding I think, ok, fine, I’ve got bigger ones. Three casts later and I hook up again. Not much drag this time but it is a Redfish.
Over the next 45 minutes I do catch a few plus 20's with plenty of drag singing power.
Final total, 8 Reds (about) 14-22â€

I got a good bit of FishBites left, I think I'll mossy on down thatta way this weekend
