Was out at K-tower this past saturday. The boat next to us was using black sea bass as bait. My question is: Is sea bass considered a game fish and if so, are you allowed to use them as bait. One of the guys on our boat said your not allowed to do that.

Technically, the guy on your boat is correct. Sea Bass is a game fish, with a minimum size, and a bag limit.

But a lot of folks use them as bait also
TC, the 2005 regs only give a bag limit for the Atlantic

They where catching some nice size amberjacks with the sea bass. They also said they caught them on cigar minows but you had to work them in order to get the amberjack to bit.

Technically if the seabass are of legal size to keep then you may use them as bait. If they are not of legal size then it is illegal to possess them even in the livewell. I've been on many a boat where we did the seabass dump on the way in from offshore.

I thought those AJ's left in the winter for warmer water. So, I guess I was wrong? Or is it less common to catch them this time of year?
You could always say you were just temporarily detaining them Rock bass 'till you could find a measuring stick, and everynow and then one caught your eye to be to small and so you would release those. Darn'dest thing, them kept getting snagged on the hook somehow
