Hey guys you have convinced me I should get separate chartplotter and fishfinder.I am going to get the 172c chart plotter but I don't know what to get for a bottom machine. I hear a lot of good things about lowrance. We don't fish in deep water so we don't need these 2000' machines but I would like to be able to see those low limestone ledges we have and be able to tell hard bottom from sand and mud. Marking fish close to structure would be a +. I'm relying on your experience. All you hear on that other forum (fs) is how great the fourno's are in 2000' of water. What are ya'll using.

We using Garmin 240 Blue. Like TC said Garmin is a good mid line bottom machine, so why not look at the 250C.

Depends on what your budget is. A garmin 240 blue is a good machine and you can find it pretty cheap these days as they have discontinued it for the 250. If I wanted color I would shy away from garmin and look at the furuno 600L.

the Furuno 600 is what all of them on the FS forum talk about. Will it work in the shallower water we fish in. I'm not talking about on the flats but when we are trolling for grouper.

These guys are about $6 cheaper total for both units, just compare shipping between the two places.
