Besides the fuel economy, noise, no smoke etc. Does anyone know the longevity of 4 strokes compaired to 2? My mechanical mind tells me they should last alot longer provided they aren't neglected. Doesz anyone know anyone that has one?

I have two 140 HP strokes and I love them. So far they have 180 HRS on them and they have never skipped a beat (knock on wood). Suzuki is a big account of mine and I know the head outboard tech, and he tells me there is rarely any problems with them. I beleive they are offering a free 6 year warr. They are a combination of marine, automobile and motorcycle technoligy. The 140 takes almost 6 Qts of oil and the filter is a spin on type for easy service. I also have a Suzuki 15hp tiller 4-stroke that is so quite that if you didnt feel it you wouldnt know its running. I would think it has over 300 hrs.  8)

Thanks fellas. I have the option of a 2004 Optimax 225 or the 2005 Suzie. I am really leaning toward the Suzie for the warranty and I won't have to smell that nasty two stroke oil( thats the wifes complaint) I happen to like it. Anyway, I suppose they both get the same gas mileage or thereabouts.

I don't know how good they are about backing it up, but I would go with the 4 stroke and long waranty  :-D

I haven't had my Yammie long enough to give you an opinion on longevity; but, my uncle has run Suzuki off the coast of North Carolina for the last ten years or so and swears by them. He runs his nearly everyday.

I've got a Honda 45h four stroke I've had for 9 years. Except for the waterpumps....I've had absolutely no trouble with it. It's got about 300 hours on it. :P

Chug, stay away from the Optimax. Lots of maintenance required.
