Fishing in June

Good afternoon! After 15 years of fighting the crowds in PCB and Destin we will be vacationing on St. George in late June early July. I have fished for Tarpon in Boca Grande and in the Keys for over 20 years. But this will be my first time to fish in this part of Florida other than bumping the bottom in Destin. Can anyone give me a couple of pointers on two things. 1) a good source for guides on the net. I am looking to start of for tarpon and if that does not work look for Reds, trout, macks etc... 2) My daughters love to fish on the beach, my wife loves for me to take the girls so she can read a book at the pool. But still not old enough for the boat. Can someone give me a few tips on surf fishing on St. George, tackle, gear, bait, what to look for. Shark problems, etc... I appreciate it. I am just trying to get a heads up now before the summer gets here and I am in Nashville daydreamin about the Gulf!

For where you are staying and what you want to do you need to book Captain Gene Strickland website. You need to reserve him ASAP because tarpon season is his busiest time. He can put you on a tarpon.

As for beach fishing. Standard bottom rig (aka carolina rig) with a small hook, use fresh dead shrimp or sand fleas on the bottom. Atticus should be able to tell you more.

Welcome to the site and have fun on your vacation.

Welcome aboard Jason!
I can't answer your questions as I haven't fished over
that way....but there are others on here that will chime in!

As far as guides, check the "area guides" link on this site.
I'm sure if they can't help you out with the type of fishing
you're looking for....they will at least point you in the right
direction.

Good afternoon Jason, glad to have you as part of the forum. Tarpon fishing is something foreign to a lot of us here. However, you may have seen my post this moring on a different thread. There is a local guide in the area who likes to chase them during the warmer weather. He is going to be giving a seminar in May but you should be able to check with him and get some good information. :D
