Spring Creek or Econfina??

Anyone care to offer their 2 cents worth - I want to go out this Friday (3/18), but can't decide to go to Spring Creek or Econfina? I am much more familiar with Econfina, but am not sure if the fish will be on the flats just yet. Spring Creek looks interesting because of some of the recent good reports, but I am not familiar with it. My first question is whether there is even a ramp there and if my 17' Cape Horn will fit on the ramp and once in the water, can I move around in the creek itself? Also, out of Econfina I would use CT's and topwater lures and wasn't sure if these will work in the creek. I just don't have any experience fishing in any of the creeks.

I like the Spring Creek area right now

I come into the Oyster Bay/Spring Creek area from the water, so the others will have ta help with directions to the landing "$5 launch and decent from what I've heard"

The spring just off from the ramp may still hold some Snapper and the Oyster bars on further out should have Reds and Trout

Go to here and see were Spring Creek is, then click on the Aerial Photo veiw, you'll see a bunch of bars in the pic "and they's a bunch more out there"

I've fished spring creek. Fish the drops around the oyster bars on moving water with jigs tiped w/shrimp. Fish the grass line on high water with topwater. I haven't fished up the creek or the springs.
If you value your fiberglass you will tread carefully. They don't call it oyster bay for nothing.

Wevans and RC - Thanks for the info. and wevans, thanks for the map/chart site. Cool features. I think I might try the creek and access it from the bay and not try to put in there. If the weather cooperates and I can go, I will post my results. Thanks again.

I'm like Wevans, I've always entered Spring Creek from the bay; but, I have been by the ramp and it's in good shape. Not sure on directions. LOTS of oyster bars; but the channel is well marked outside the creek. The channel runs a little narrow and shallow in places, just go slow.

I do like Spring Creek but I'd do the Econfina because I would expect fish to be around the mouths of the creeks or on the flats. That's really generic info but what it translates to is not deep. The water temp is up enough for fish to be out. Add this, look for hard bottom ledges/drop offs and similar structure that can hold food. There's no grass yet or much bait & the fish will look around hard bottom for other stuff (inverts) to eat. Also, where are the mullet? Find them and toss a SM52, Catch 2000, or a topwater -all of it slow & fancy.

If I were you I'd go to Spring Creek.
I've got Econfina covered Thurs-Sunday.
We can compare reports next week.
