Lanark Report 4-9

Buddy Bill and I went to Lanark and put in about 7. We had debated on whether to go to St. Marks instead, but decided to try Lanark. Wind NW about 10k, water temp 64, and about as rotten looking water as I have ever seen. Putrid brown water so cloudy that you could not see the bottom in 3' of water.
Headed out offshore to a 45' number, and trolled with no takers. Anchored up at two numbers and only shorts and some cutoffs from maybe kings. Came back in to Dog Island Reef, and the place was a biological desert. Several boats fishing, some trolling and some drifting. Never saw a bent rod, never got a strike. Water awful looking stuff.
Headed west along Dog Island, and got clear of the dirty water for a while. Trolled East Pass, again no takers and didn't see anyone else catch anything. Lots of dolphins and loons, but didn't see any fish jumping or breaking bait. Finally spotted a school of big jack crevalle, and Bill managed to put a spoon where one took it on my ten pound test rod. The 20 minute fight finally ended with a picture and a release. Nice day, but I hate fishing under those conditions.
Luck,
EJ
