I took off Friday and was comforted by a Friday evening marine forecast of light to moderate chop becoming light in the evening. Did not check Friday morning to see small craft advisory (although some of my best days boating and fishing have been under a so called small craft advisory). Caught a nice spanish and a bull blue (by Gulf Coast standards) and missed a nice trout. Wind whipped up so hard that when I tried to slide between the 1st stake and the Bird Rack I bottomed out. I was able to back out into more water and head for the ramp. Miserable weather but still got a nice spanish, nice blue....could not have happened at the office. Lessons learned....marine forecast is crude even with todays technology.....a 17' Cape Horn needs more than 4" of water....a Johnson Bombardier 115 backs you off a sandbar pretty well....rough water and spotty fishing is still better than working. P.S. I actually got to see my BottomLine 480 x 480 read zero before I hit the sandbar on the east side of the Bird Rack. You can buy'em a boat but that don't make'em smart. Finding Nemo!
