Bay Fish

Fishing today was as good as it gets. I started at 8:00 am eastern time. The wind was light out of the north east. Water temp started out at about 67 degrees. I started out fishing a gold colored top dog on the flats. It was inhaled within the first two cast. A keeper red could not resist the action I had presented. Threw a few more times and decided to let a small peter size mullet try to attract a fish. I hooked him behind the dorsal fin under a 12 inch weighted cork slipping with a bead. I thought I would let him soak while I made a few more cast with the dog. As soon as I put the soak pole in the holder and picked up my dog I saw the water explode about 6 feet from the cork. It took me by surprise. I set my dog down hard grabbed the mullet and pow, there it was a nice trout in the boat. I rocked on throwing the dog and soaking mullet. As I did this I was catching plenty. Both ways worked well soaking mullet, shrimp and green backs and tossing the dog. Both seem to work well but that live bait thing is easy. So I put the dog back in its pen. After a while I was getting board watching cork slingers so I decided to give the fish and fisherman a rest. I trolled the rest of the day for the Spanish. We ended with a few good ones a few small ones. It turned out to be a good safe trip fishing the bay.
