Aucilla report

Post by rocket »

Put in around 9:00, and headed out the east pass, and it was low. A couple of boats in front of us had the pass clogged so we had to come off a plane, glad they did because while we were putting out, something started busting the top violently. Partner got one to hit topwater, and it was on for 15 min. Jack Crevalle were everwhere. After releasing the 10lb'er, we chased them for over an hour. They would boil right under the plug, or miss it it completely. That was a big tease!!
Off to catch something edible...Fished pinhook rocks...nada...made a couple of drifts, and picked up a 20 incher. Got a little closer to shore, and BAM, a 25", 6 lb red destroyed my lure.
Picked up two more reds over the (three of us on the boat) over the next hour or so, then it was time to go get some trout.
Started drifting in 5' of water, and immeaditely picked up trout. All were in the 18" range.
Picked up an even dozen, enough to feed everyone's families, and headed for the hill.

Tally for the day:

13 trout, most around 18", one 20"er, and one that weighed 4 lbs. All on straight jigs, color didn't seem to matter. Caught the 20" on a redfin.

3 reds, all 24, and 25 inches, one weighed 6lbs. All caught on spoons, and a X2Y drifting mechanism, with a rotor splint, and weighted baffles, color didn't seem to matter.

:-D Any insite on where? I fished that way from Ecofina and nada? Were you dragging the jigs on the bottom slow or pumping them faster? We scraped up 9 at Ecofina after 11:30. :-D

Reds were west of redfish point, and the trout were in the pinhook rocks vicinity, in 6' to 3' of water.
Trout were caught straight jigging, not slow.
New moon prboably had alot to do the agressive bite. I envy those able to go today.
