Well after days of smack talk, bananas being prepared and sleepless nights, the highly anticipated days of fishing the St. Joe arrives…

The game plan was set at myself arriving at 7:00 est and that would mean 6:00 my time…I arrived at 5:45 my time and some how it was your late, where have you been…I thought to myself, but didn’t say, “this marriage is great, but the foreplay needs some refinement.â€

Chalk covered the story quite well. For those that have followed our saga, Chalk and I have struggled the last few tournaments. Yesterday, we had a limit in the box by 10:00. It was wonderful to finally relax, and have a good day of fishing. We improved on the weight of our limit throughout the day, and had a blast. The only negative occurance came about noon, when I learned, without question, Chalk needs singing lessons.

It was a good day with a good friend. I look forward to the next trip.

Sonny and I got to PSJ Friday about 7:45 and were on the water shortly after. I called TC on the radio and they indicated they hadn't done much.

We started just north of Presnells close to the spoil island. After a few short strikes on topwater I had a 5 lb spanish destroy my skitter walk. After a short battle he came loose at boatside. But since I hadn't planned on keeping fish it didn't matter.

We then ran over to a spot west of Black's Island where we always catch fish. Sonny and I won the first 2 tournaments at SJB and had a pretty good idea about where the fish were. Sure enough when we got there we started catching fish. Blues, trout, cobia, etc. We caught 4-5 trout all over 18 and one over 22. Put them all back for karmic reasons. What was neat was nearly every fish we saw came off the back of a ray. We saw 2 big cobia, 40+, but didn't get a chance at either. I caught one about 28" and lost another they may have barely kept. We put a bunch of blues in the boat most over 2 pounds. Redfins and CT/grubs caught the fish. The wind was light and we were able to sight fish very easily. We saw several more big trout in the area and were pretty confident we had a good spot picked out for Saturday.

We left there and went back close to presnells. We started fishing up behind the spoil island. As we work around a point I made a cast with the skitter walk and the water in a 50 foot circle boiled. I hooked up with one of the 50 reds in a school. I got Sonny to throw and he hooked up too.

We boated 2 23" reds and headed down to meet TC and Chalk at the Marina for lunch.

Chalk told you about the black cat incident. I have a theory about what happened. I can break it down in a formula I think...

TC + Chalk + Tournaments = Bad Luck or negative luck represented as TC+C+T = -L
Sonny + Tom + Tournament = Good Luck or positive luck represented as S+T+T1 = L

Black Cat on Friday the 13th has got to be a multiplier of bad luck X (-L).

So since we know a negative times a negative equals a positive, TC and Chalk's negative tournament luck turned positive and mine and Sonny's turned negative.

After lunch we returned to the hole where we caught the reds and they were still there. We caught 6 more in about an hour and called Chalk and TC over to help. I did have to borrow a spinner bait from TC since I had broken off the only 2 I had.

We fished till 4 and headed to casa de Chalk for a much needed shower and dinner.

Tournament day. WIND. We headed to our spot near blacks. 2 foot chop on the water and blowing the wrong way to set up a good drift. We fished hard for an hour when finally I put our big fish in the boat (3.5 lbs). We fished for another hour with no bites before we called it quits for that spot. We headed south to try to find some fish. We did but they were all small.

So I called TC on the radio for help. He told me they had a limit and to come on. We ran over and they showed us what to throw and where to drift.

We made 3 drifts with only one fish. All the while they are loading the boat with fish (although TC did catch quite a few catfish). I was a little frustrated so Sonny and I decided to see if the reds were still in our hole. They were, and we caught 5 in 30 minutes.

We ran back and TC and Chalk were still there, still catching. We pulled out the big guns and started throwing live pinfish. I put one more 19 incher in the box and missed 3 more, one that was a good one. After I ran out of live pins, I started throwing shiner tails. Missed 2 more fish and got cut off. That was it, We were done. We headed for the landing.

We heard stories of feast or famine. Seems folks were either on fish all day, or they couldn't buy bite. Luckily our 3 fish weighed 7.88 lbs and was good enough for 4 th place. Here are the pics of the stringers and the leaderboard.

Thanks to Chalk and Mrs. Chalk for letting us stay at their house and cooking such a fine meal. Thanks to TC for trying to lead a horse to water. Too bad you couldn't make him drink. Thanks to JT51 for another great tourney. And all the rest of the NFGFC members who participated. Thank you.

You have to induce a negative to get a negative response, formula corrected...

-TC + Chalk + Tournaments = Bad Luck or negative luck represented as TC+C+T = -L
Sonny + Tom + Tournament = Good Luck or positive luck represented as S+T+T1 = L

Note SirReel's hand indicating the number of fish he caught...
