Stupid question about livewells...

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a new boat that has a livewell built into the hull. I never have had a boat with a livewell, so I don't know how to use it. The boat is a 1991 Prosports 14'. It has a plug in the bottom, what looks like an overflow hole near the top on the side, and a small spigot towards the top.

Here are the questions:

1. Do I fill this thing using a bucket, or should I pull the plug and let it fill? I have pulled the plug, and it doesn't fill - thus the question.

2. Do all live wells need to be electronically aerated, or is there some gravity-based system that keeps air in them? If this is the case, I need to figure out how to turn on the aerator. (the electronics battery was dead when I went out for the maiden voyage - so I couldn't tell what switch ran what).

Thanks for tolerating my ignorance.

The small spigot looking thing should be where the airator pumps water into the livewell, the overflow is to keep it from sinking the boat if you forget to turn it off and to let you pump in fresh water :-D There should be an inlet for the water at the back of the boat with a pump attached to it in the bilge area or at the back of the livewell
