Got to the marina around 1:30 7 trillion trks and trailors parked all over Keatons as usuall. It was hot and sunshiny so I thought I'd do a little exploring during the heat of the day. Ran south past Grassy Island several miles. Stopped and fished 5' of water for short time, couple of shorts. Moved a little ways south again, nothing but a short cobia (20"+). Also no grass on bottom, rare for the Keaton area. Moved back north around the Bird rack area fished there till around 6. Picked up shorts, 1 16" and a 22" Trout on a pinfish. Pinfish are like Crisco "they'll do u proud ever time. Move north to Jabo area from 6-8:00 caught 6 more keepers. Nicer ones. I used staight grub on bottom, wife used her old faithful CJ and Candy corn. She caught all the shorts I had all the keepers. :-D Tally for the afternoon
2 Ladyfish
short cobia
hundreds of short trout
3 20"+ trout (kept only2)
2 18"
1 16"
2 15"

BTW 2nd week in a row I've got to cast at NICE cobia with no luck.

We hung 2 cobia there last Sat. and missed both. First one felt like a big one. WTG with staying late to get the bite going, sometimes that pays off.

1 of the cobia I saw last week was probaly 40+ lbs. Had 1 shot at casting at him but jig landed sort of to the side (cuz he turned as I cast) and he glanced at it at that was all.
Yesterday saw a keeper cruising over a sandbar right beside a ray in about 4' of water.

I doubt I have any flats tackle that'll handle a 40 lb. cobia. He'd take you water skiing if you hooked up!
