Launched out of Spring Creek about 8:00 am with my father and cousin. We headed out to the grass flats out in front of Smith Island. Started a drift at the sand bar that took us toward the Shell Point buoy. My father and cousin started hooking up with short spec's about every other cast. The depth was between 4 and 6 ft with water temp at 78 degrees and calm seas. I had to fish the other side of the boat in the 6 to 8 ft depth. To say the least, they had a blast catching all those shorts and laughing at my lack of luck. :smt011 I finally hooked up and thought I had a really nice keeper on the line. Turned out I had a 22" spanish and I was surprised he didn't cut the line. I was happy, had the big fish for the day. :-D We headed in about 11:30 as the bite had stopped. Totals for the morning were:

20 short Spec's..... that swam away
1 19" spec
1 22" spanish

So it was too deep on your side of the boat, huh?

Congrats on a nice trip and good family time too. Ahhhh mid-week fishin'.... I feel a calling ........

What's the best way to get to Oyster Bay? Only way I ever did it was to put in at Spring Creek, and I had a heck of a time getting my boat on the trailer!

I launch at Spring Creek. As long as I catch the tide before it drops below 1.5 ft, I can load my 17' Carolina Skiff without any problems. Just watch out for the hole on that one side of the ramp.

If it's high tide, I sneak into my sister's place and use their ramp. :D
