My son and I launched on the Cooper River system Sunday morning about 20 minutes before first light. Ran to a large area of grass beds. Fished topwater for the first hour, and boated 2 nice bass. Fished till 2:00 PM, and caught a total of 5 bass.

Yesterday we went to The Goose Creek Reservoir about 3:00 PM. We rode the full length of the lake, just lookin around. Started fishing at the far end of the lake, and immediaely boated 3 fish. We left that area to look at other places. Total for yesterday was 6 nice bass, including a solid 5 lb. fish I caught on the last cast of the day.

For those that don't know, my son, and his family (including my 2 grandchildren), moved to South Carolina about a year ago. We only recently got him a boat ready to fish. This was the first fishing trip for us in South Carolina. Two unfamiliar bodies of water, and we caught fish on both. I sure miss fishin with my son.

Ya'll done good and it sounds like ya got a good excuse to make some more road trips in the future

I lived for 5 years in Charleston SC while in the USAF. We regularly fished Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion. Many trips were made on the Cooper River. They have world class fishing there....and the national record for speckled perch (called carppie there) came from Lake Moultrie...over 5lbs. Record for stripers comes from there too.
TC you surely did well for a rookie on strange waters. That whole area will spoil you. WTG.
My son and I spent many happy days there....mostly striper fishing.
We are now content to try the flats around Econfina and Aucilla when the weather permits.

TC- I am happy for you. Nothing beats fishing with someone in your family. I am sure your son will remember that trip for years to come.

Thanks for the report TC. Sounds like a great time...I missed your post when you put it up on Tues been looking forward to hearing how it went. You didn't mention anything about the rig so I guess it ran well for you I'm sure "Young Master Luke" enjoyed hav'n daddy there as well

SR, the boat ran fine. The captain was a little hesitant, having his dad on board. He said he felt out of place on the front deck. He did make me take the front in the river. He doesn't have much boat handling experience handling a boat in a flowing river. After fishing the areas we did this past weekend, I strongly suggested he learn to river fish. Maybe I can talk Wevans into going up there and teaching him.
