I recently repowered with a 40HP Yamaha that came with an aluminum propeller. I want a backup and have a chance to buy a used stainless steel prop and wonder if that would make sense since most of my boating involves shallow water, oyster bars and rocks. By all accounts a stainless will perform better but I am worried about dinging something hard and worsening damage to the drive shaft and lower unit.

I need to replace the aluminum prop on my 140 mercruiser I/O - and am wondering about SS vs aluminum, also. While I won't be going as shallow as Skag, I might try to and get into trouble with Mr. Seafloor.

Where do any of you shop for good prices on the internet for props? Does not seem like shipping would be too bad and would probably about offset sales tax anyway.

I've been running a SS prop from them for 3 years now "500+ hrs" and have never had it off the boat "tried to remove it last year and it is stuck on there " so it is made very well

Just went from an Alum to a SS and the SS does much better with the setup I have. I run in shallow water a fair amount and for the performance difference I'll take my chances on busting something.
