Can anyone give me some advice on catfishing on lake Talquin?Also does anyone know a good bait to use that stays on the hook good?I've use dip baits but they seem to disolve fairly quickley and the stink baits you can get at Walmart sling off to easily when your casting.I'm lookin to put in at Stoutamire rd or Wainright rd does anyone have knowledge on this part of the lake?

Depends on what you want to catch and how you want to fish.

For channels the best baits we have found is big earthworms or black wigglers. For blues the best bait is if you catch a keeper speckle perch and cut him into chunks. If you catch live shad around the dam and fish with them you should have no problem. Since you are fishing talquin, you can also get mussels from sandy banks. They work well and stay on the hook good.

Use a regular carolina rig with a half ounce weight and a swivel with a 12-18inch leader with a small hook. If you are targeting bigger fish you'll want to go with a bigger, stronger hook like a 1/0-2/0 live bait hook. If you want a chance to catch shellcrakers and river bream too then you'll want to use a lighter wire hook.

Any high bluff bank with an 8-10 foot detph is a good place to fish, as well as shallow sandy flats with shells mixed in.

'Cain't tell you anything about fishing Talquin, but I use to do a lot of catfishing on the Ochlockonee up around Thomasville as a kid, and most of the time we used mullet guts. My dad would get them from a local fish market by the pint or quart.
Let them warm up for about half a day or so, before using them. They will smell bad, but have caught some big cats on trotlines and set hooks with them. As for a source, I couldn't tell you where you might find 'em- Local fish market, maybe.
Chicken livers would be my second choice, but they don't stay on the hook as good as mullet gizzards.
