St. Joe Bay 6/23/05 & 6/26/05

6/23-- launched from Presnells around 6:45 a.m. Took me awhile to find some redfish but finally managed to land 2 in the south end of the bay. Spent the rest of the day looking for trout with little success, hit all of my normal trout spots and only boated 2 , 19"ers along with several shorts. The best trout bite seemed to be on the west side of the Bay. Caught the redfish on "redfish magic" and the trout on a grub under a c/t cork.
6/26--Fairly exhausted from the previous 3 days fishing but knew I had to go 1 more time before I left SJB or I would be kicking myself all week. Since the trout had been a wash out all weekend, I decided to strictly look for redfish. Didn't see as many as Chalk and I had seen the previous 2 days but the bite seemed to start earlier. I was able to boat a nice 26.5" red in the south end of the bay on a green/silver topdog jr. Later I found a small school of 3-5 redfish tailing in some 1' water and convinced a 22"er to eat a gold spoon. I needed to leave by 11:30, so I hit mine and Chalks' honeyhole hoping for just 1 more. Sure enough he was there, chasing bait and making a heck of a ruckus in some extremely shallow water. Knowing an approach in the boat would be tricky, I eased into the water and began a 75 yd. stalk. Easing into his area, I cast my gold spoon a good 20 yds. past him. As I brought it past his nose, he thumped it. Wrapped up the 4 days fishing SJB with a beatiful 24"er. Man, I love that Bay. Can't wait until next time.
