Left the ramp as the sun was coming up. The Marina and parking area were sandy with some debris, but the dock was back in position and launching pretty normal. Glad to see that most of the houses in the area seemed inhabitable if not intact, but unfortunately those block houses on grade were pretty well trashed.
Good old NOAA had the forecast 5-10k out of the west, but the day began with 10-15k out of the northwest, pushing a nasty 2-3' foot chop once you got offshore. First stop in 45' brought instant hits, but most were sublegals. Had to cull through many to get two 25" gags, and one 20" red.
Moved twice more, once to 55', but only sublegals there and one gigaticus nurse shark, which I shot with a powerhead at the boat. (that's a joke!). Had promised myself I would head in at 12, as the wind was coming down and it was way HOT. Water temp at the surface was 87, at at the dock my car thermometer reat 94. Saw bonito and macks chopping up rain minnow at the surface several times, but they didn't like my nylure. You gotta match the hatch, and I was too lazy to switch to a small spoon.
Didn't see a whole lot of debris floating, although the water is really brown within a few miles of shore. Had planned to circle Dog Island to check out damage, but time got away and I didn't. Enjoyed the day, even though it was hot. Lots of boats in the lot as I left.
Luck,
EJ
