Left at C-Quarters at 0600 hrs this morning with a nasty storm just passing through to the east. We cleaned out our bait traps, and headed south. Captian said we should be fishing in 4 hrs :o . He was heading deep!
We arrived around 11:00, and dropped lines. Me, and another crew member pulled up a couple of respectable gags right away.
My next drop doubled me over right away. I hauled in a 38 lb. grouper (that was fun!). We put a few more in the boat before moving.
Current picked up, and the bite was a lot slower. Lots of shorts, and some snapper.
Went through a few storms (nasty lightning), and got rained on quite a bit. Back at the hill at 5:45 for a 6:00 weigh in.
Total for the day was 82 lbs of grouper. That was enough to take second place. First place had 85 lbs. However with the big grouper, we won the Calcutta, and took the money. It was a nice payday!
Fished 72 miles offshore in, 175 feet of water.
