SGI & Alligator Pt

Got back yesterday from a week at the Plantation on SGI. We had a great week and managed to put the boat in a at the bridge a couple of times. We had a few hits on CTs and each ended up breaking off :o however we did manage to ensure the 5 kids on the boat had fun as we absolutely killed the sail-cats :thumbdown: FWC met us at the ramp and checked my cooler but I had nothing of interest....

We also fished from the beach and had some luck: many cats :thumbdown: and whiting :) , our very first Pompano :thumbup: and my 6 y/o caught a 2ft bonnet-head.

Today we ran out to alligator point to go after tarpon. First cast of the net and my buddy and I had visions of the end of Finding Nemo.... Needless to say we had plenty of bait. Spent about 2 hours on the water and hooked 12 fish. 2 sharks and 10 break offs :smt013 Nonetheless it is great to fight those big tarpons and sharks!


Next weekend we will make our usual trip to the flats around St Marks and hopr for some trout, reds, spanish, etc.....

There is a good ramp in the Plantation at the Cut behind a locked gate. Most people don't know you can get the combo from the guard gate (usually), and it is a hell of a lot more convenient than driving all the way to the middle of the island. From land, the cut is some awesome fishing. Lots of reds, mackrel, some trout on the beach side of the rocks, as well as still some grouper from the hurricane. If you can manage to keep a pinfish out in the cut side of the rocks, you run about 75% chance of a nice bull red bite. When they are around, it can also be non-stop tarpon bites if you are prepared. Also plenty of flounder on the beach side of the rocks, very close to shore. There is also a GREAT spot on the bay side for reds and trout. Turn toward the bay at the tennis courts. There is a small parking spot at the end of the road and a quick walk to the water. We usually NAIL the reds right from the shore to the right of the trail, and if you want to do some wading out to the left, it gets about waist deep and tons of trout where the 2 creeks enter the bay. A bit muddy if you get too close to the mouths, but nice and firm out a little bit.
