Parked at Wakulla Beach and walked in to fish the late afternoon low tide. Caught one 21 inch red on a Bill Dance Swimmin' Image shallow runner. Good thing he was in the slot because he took the entire plug in his mouth tail first. Rear treble all the way back in his throat. Worked my way back to the levee before sunset, but caught no other fish. Fed lots of flies. Found a rock hole I didn't know about with my brand new 9' Spanish style castnet.
Oh well, going to get it washed the mud off and felt good. Net's okay.

Saw one 'gator poke his head up. Looked about 2' from snout to eyes.

Watched the lightning in a thunder-boomer blowing by to the north. Noticed it rained at 98 when I came out.

When slogging through that mud, a CamelBak gets a little heavy with all your gear and a 9' castnet in it.

Loads of bait of all kinds back in there, shrimp, crabs, mullet, bull minners, etc.

Good report. I've been there a couple of times but not enough to visualize which direction you took. Did you walk/wade to-wards the West? or East?

Went west from Wakulla Beach to West Goose Creek. Then went northwestish up the east side of the creek to the levee. All the folks I see walk in fishing there go to the first long bar, it's the easiest to get to, so I go further up.

I've been thinking about walking east from Wakulla Beach, Graves Creek is that way with a couple of smaller creeks between the two. I think there's more oyster bars around the mouth of Graves than West Goose.

What would you say the distance was that you traveled...one way?

Get you a kayak and it makes fishing that area much easier. I was out there Saturday morning. Worked my way back into West Goose Creek before paddling out to Patty's Island. I've always had better luck to the East of Wakulla Beach or out at the Islands.

Honestly, I have no idea, Sir. The creek meanders back there and so did I. Plus I didn't walk it all in one shot, but stopped to fish and scare the mullet with my cast net here and there.

I drove the car that day and I know when I got home I was a lot more tired than I am when I ride my bike down there to fish and that's 7+ miles one way. Of course I hadn't done it before with a castnet in my pack and I normally only go maybe half that far back.

I've thought about a 'yak, Nathan, but I think I'd really rather get a canoe. That's one of the little glitches Dennis put in my retirement plans, besides knocking the house down a week before I moved in, it also destroyed my 17' aluminum canoe and threw it up on the refuge somewhere.

But, what I really want is a 1660 jonboat with a 25 on it and trailer. When things settle down and become a little more routine around here I'm figuring on heading over to Panacea and have a look at SeaArk and G3. Maybe some time toward the end of next month.
