Past couple of weeks I’ve been trying to decide on a new bottom machine…..I have a combo unit from Eagle which has served me well for the past year…Only thing , as I mentioned on an earlier post is trying to find something on the bottom using the gps and depth finder….swithching back and forth don’t work well at all..esp if the wind is blowing at all…..Initially I was looking at the Garmin 240.
I finally decided to to take advantage of the wisdom, experience and advice of a famous fisherman and go with the Garmin 250..

Ordered it this afternoon from my local tackle and equiptment dealer..Should be in by Fri so’s I’ll have it installed by the weekend….

Second thing, I also about decided to go ahead and get a new gps at the same time…..Looking like it will be a Garmin 172..I’d like the color but don’t think the difference in price would be justified no further out than I get or any more often than I would use it…
What I was wondering is what else do I need in the way of cabling, a chip, and blue card with the Apalachee Bay area on it….ect….I got dozens of waypoints marked from 24 to Rock Island…would like to be able to enter them off my desktop on the chip and plug it in the gps…
Could any of you using Garmin gps give me some advice along thse lines ?

You'll also need an AC/PC adapter, a memory chip, and Mapsource Bluechart. You can buy a memory chip with the bluechart already loaded, but if you buy a blank memory chip and Bluechart software, you can load our region of the bluechart mapping, and have the option of loading other regions, for a fee, if you travel. The pre loaded chips are sold by region. The CD has the entire U.S. coastline. The software on the CD also loads on your PC, and allows you to store and transfer your points, tracks, mapping, and routes. I would strongky suggest the blank chip and CD.

Bottom line, add another $200 +/- to the price of the 172.

Sundown....my son got a Garmin 172 a few months ago (black&white) and added the preprogramed chip for this area. It's all the difference in the world.
He loves it. :D
