Crabbing

Is the Fall a good time for blue crabbing? I've crabbed off and on over the years but I can't remember crabbing in the Fall. My wife isn't a big fish eater and I only went scalloping once this summer so a batch of crabs would go over great. Also she makes the worlds best crab cakes. I've had decent luck at Hickory Mound but other good spots anyone would like to share would be appreciated.

Try Ochlocknee bay, I used to do good on the NW side of the bridge. In other words, go over the bridge (past Angelos), then immeadiately turn right. We used to clean up with a chicken leg, and a dip net. However I haven't done it quite a few years.
Good luck.

Hickory mound is closed for who knows how long. The place rocket recommended can be good if you have a decent rising tide and no company. Also the canals at shell point have done well for me in the past. Crabbing season should be peaking right now (actually the last full moon we had).

Hickory Mound - It _must_ be good for crabbing.... I've been working down there in the middle the week and seen folks crabbing in some of the nastiest weather.
Tom is correct - HMI was under construction this summer and was severely damaged by hurricane Dennis. A re-opening date is not yet known.
Good luck
